Technically speaking, Chamberí is not a neighbourhood. It is a district made up of six neighbourhoods including: Gaztambide, Arapiles, Trafalgar, Almagro, Ríos Rosas and Vallehermoso. This tells us that it is a large and diverse district where you can find unique elements such as iconic restaurants in the city, unique art galleries and neighbourhood cinemas like Cine Cartago with five screens and open since 1958. Furthermore, its streets hide the architectural legacy of Madrid's most traditional aristocracy, who lived here during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Chamberí is not a museum district and the advantage of this is that you don't have to queue to visit, for example, the Sorolla Museum, the house where the painter lived from 1911 with his entire family. The Chamberí district is the perfect option if you are looking for a place away from the hustle and bustle of the city's most touristy area without losing the possibility of enjoying all the attractions of the city as if you were in the centre of Madrid.
You will have unmissable alternative plans just a few steps away such as: Ponzano street from where you can enjoy typical Ponzaning or go for tapas at the city's top restaurants and bars, discover Chamberí's ghost station, the beautiful Enrique Herreros Gardens, or visit one of the best preserved palaces in the city, the Bermejillo Palace amongst many other places just a few metres away from the property.
